Dive in this September with Hyde Park’s annual Swim Serpentine Festival.
The Swim Serpentine will be taking place on Saturday, 17 September in London’s Hyde Park. The event is great for people of all abilities who have one thing in common… their love for swimming! So, whether you’d prefer to take on half a mile, one mile, two miles or even the ‘Super Six’ six mile challenge, throw yourself into the deep end this autumn with this unmissable event in the heart of London.
We chatted with one of our 2021 competitors, Alan, about his experience of completing the Swim Serpentine.
Last year, Alan joined #TeamVision in the Swim Serpentine’s one mile race (which covers one full lap of the Serpentine lake and happens to be the same course as the London 2012 Olympic Marathon Swimming event)! We asked him about his experience in taking part and he noted how it was a “great event, great location and great support from the Vision Foundation team”.
When taking part in any challenge event, #TeamVision are always there supporting people and cheering them on by the sidelines on event day. We know that the run up to a big challenge event can be nerve-racking so we ensure you receive expert training advice throughout your training journey. For Alan, the swimming wasn’t the daunting part. He often takes part in club swimming, so felt confident training for the big day, but he was concerned about the temperature, especially when wearing his “swimming skins” (a wetsuit).
When we asked Alan if he would do anything differently if he had the chance, he said “Next time, I’d come back and swim the 2 miles and participate in RideLondon 2023 so that I could receive the London Classics Medal.”
The London Classics
To be awarded a London Classics Medal, you must finish all three classics events:
• The London Marathon (anytime since 1981)
• The Prudential RideLondon Surrey/Essex 100 (any time since 2013)
• The Swim Serpentine two-mile swim
Being awarded this medal is an incredible achievement, we hope to support as many #TeamVision competitors to achieve it as possible!
We still have places available for this year’s Swim Serpentine so if you’re ready for the challenge, please get in touch with Silvia at SEkzarkova@visionfoundation.org.uk if you want to take on the waves in this epic challenge event.
