5 questions with a five-time marathon runner

Olivia smiling and using a peace signFundraising Assistant, Olivia sat down with Team Vision marathon runner, Daniel for a quickfire Q&A to explore his past and current experiences of the London Marathon as he gears up for his incredible fifth marathon on Sunday, 23 April 2023.

Daniel has previously taken on four epic marathons for Vision Foundation, with this year’s marking his fifth event! We wanted to delve deeper into why he decided to take on the iconic challenge again and why he chose to run to save sight and change lives with Vision Foundation. Here’s what he said…

Why have you decided to run the marathon for the fifth time?

Aside from the fact that Vision Foundation is a great cause and one I am proud to raise money for, I injured myself before the last marathon I ran in 2021 and wanted to run another to see if I could beat the completely arbitrary time of 3 hours 30 mins!

Have you got pearls of wisdom for people running for the first time?

Start slowly and enjoy it! It is a fantastic experience. There will be another chance to run your personal best so for the first one, just have fun.

What has been your favourite part of marathon training?

Running for 2 hours around Longleat Forest getting completely lost and ending up in a field in the ground of Longleat Manor!

What has been the best fundraising method you’ve used?

Reaching out to friends and colleagues who are far richer than I am!

Why have you chosen to run for #TeamVision all of these times?

It has been over a decade now that I have been involved with Vision Foundation. The more I learn about their work and the more I deal with their great workers, the more I want to help. To combine helping Vision Foundation with my favourite pastime of running is a perfect combination.

Good luck, Team Vision!

We are so grateful for supporters like Daniel who are helping us raise money and awareness for sight loss. We want to wish a huge, good luck to all of the runners who are taking on the marathon as part of #TeamVision this week!
