Loneliness and isolation are critical issues for visually impaired young people, so we’ve partnered with mental health organisation, SHOUT, to offer an accessible and confidential text helpline to blind and partially sighted people in distress.
How does it work?
The free, 24/7 service is available to anyone in the UK. It’s a place to turn to if you’re struggling to cope. All you need to do to start a conversation is text VIP to 85258.
Maria says, “I was 14 when I was diagnosed with retinal dystrophy. I felt there was nothing available to help me come to terms with losing my sight. If I’d had a service I could text it would have helped me understand what I was going through and how it was normal to feel anxious.”
