Right now, 40,000 blind and partially sighted Londoners are unemployed – that’s the equivalent of 500 double-decker buses of wasted skills and potential. This is something many people living with sight loss understand – including people like Glen.

After a Image shows Glen in a suit with a microphonesuccessful City career spanning many years, his sight began to deteriorate. As he struggled to come to terms with his sight loss, the father of two found himself unemployed and unable to get another job.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Things began to change for Glen when he started volunteering with his local sight loss charity. After a few weeks of touch-typing lessons, Glen could navigate his keyboard and started writing for the charity newspaper. As his talent and confidence started to shine through Glen went on to successfully secure a paid role.

Make a difference

Thanks to your generous support this winter, the Vision Foundation can help blind and partially sighted people develop new skills and find employment.

Every pound you donate will go towards helping blind and partially sighted people live more independent and fulfilling lives.

£10 could fund a touch-typing taster session, helping someone build the confidence to compete with sighted candidates for meaningful roles.

£30 could fund half a day of touch-typing training, equipping someone with the vital skills they need to complete job applications.

£90 could equip a personal desktop with access technology, enabling someone to navigate their computer and complete their role with freedom.
