What it’s like to volunteer with Vision Foundation…

Vision Foundation wouldn’t be able to achieve everything it does without the wonderful and generous volunteers who give their time to support the visually impaired community. From helping out in our shops and donation centres, to cheering along marathon runners, or dedicating time as a trustee, every hour volunteered makes a huge difference.

This Volunteers Week we are celebrating our volunteers and saying a big thank you. Here are a few of the brilliant experiences shared by charity shop volunteers…

“I have been a manager at our Hampton Hill branch for almost three months, but I volunteered for over two years before becoming a manager! Being a volunteer has been amazing and I have absolutely loved it. My confidence has grown so much and continues too. You get to meet so many wonderful people and knowing that you are helping a charity is an amazing feeling. I’d encourage anyone thinking of being a volunteer to go for it! You have nothing to lose but so much to gain.”

Fiona -Volunteer E-Commerce Book Enthusiast

“I’ve been volunteering as an e-Commerce book enthusiast for more than six months. I decided to volunteer with Vision Foundation as I wanted to work for a charity in my local area and it’s also a great cause supporting London’s visually impaired community. It’s a really interesting role which involves researching rare and collectible books that have been donated to the charity, writing descriptions and adding listings to the Vision Foundation eBay store. I feel that the role really makes a difference and it’s exciting when an item sells on eBay adding to the charity’s funds. The people I work with are brilliant – they are friendly and supportive, and I’ve been able to use my existing skills and learn new ones too.”

I go home each time with such a sense of fulfilment and can’t wait to volunteer again! I’ve been volunteering for nearly 2 years now.”

Megan – Volunteer e-Commerce Assistant

“I have been volunteering in the eBay department since November/December 2022. My role consists of book researching and marketing books online for eBay. It is an honourable cause for a good charity but also promote self-discipline in me, I find the work environment flexible where I can thrive with the independence and the exploration of books!”
